Joseph W. Van Nort, 63, of Olyphant, died Saturday morning at Geisinger-Community Medical Center, Scranton. He is the son of Jeanne Shanley Van Nort and the late Frank J. Van Nort.
Born in Scranton, he was a graduate of Bishop O’Hara High School, Dunmore and was a member of Holy Cross Parish, Olyphant. He was formerly employed by WEA Manufacturing, Olyphant and currently, Doherty Inc., Scranton.
Joe loved golfing and enjoyed being a member of the Blakely American Legion Golf League and Sons of the American Legion, Carbondale.
He is also survived by his sister, Jeanne Van Nort Kropa and husband, William; two nieces: Corrinne and Shayna Kropa; and an aunt, Mary Boretsky, two uncles: James and Joseph Shanley, cousins and friend, Valerie.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday at 9:30a.m. at Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, 200 Delaware Ave., Olyphant, Monsignor Michael J. Delaney, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Blakely.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Social distancing and wearing of masks will be enforced.
Friends are asked to go directly to the church on Wednesday.
