Thomas Patrick McKeon, 80, of Blakely, died on Wednesday night at home surrounded by his family. His wife is the former Henrietta B. Endres. They met in Germany during his service with the U.S. Army. They were married for 58 years.
Born in Blakely, he was a lifelong resident and the son of the late Robert D. and Genevieve M. Cavanaugh McKeon. He was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School, Olyphant, Class of 1961. He was employed by the former Trane Company, Dunmore and retired from WEA Manufacturing, Olyphant as a forklift operator.
Tom was a member of Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick's Church, Olyphant and was a faithful participant at their Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. He was a life member of the Blakely Hose Co No. 2. He joined in 1965 and dedicated 59 years of service in various roles such as Chief, Assistant Chief, Vice President, and Trustee of both the hose company and the Fireman’s Relief Association . Tom was also a 56 year member of William Hopkins American Legion Post 570, Blakely and was a longtime board member. He made many friends throughout his service.
Tom was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family. One of his greatest joys was his two favorite granddaughters, Kelsey and Keena. He had a special bond with each of them.
The family would like to sincerely thank the nurses and staff at Davita Dialysis, Eynon and Compassionate Care Hospice for their wonderful care for Tom.
He is survived by two children, John McKeon and wife, Janine, and their son, Adam Fioretti, of Blakely; and Kelly Ann Jackson and husband, Craig, of Clarks Summit, and their children, Kelsey Jackson and partner, Caleb Bach, of Sherrill’s Ford, N.C.; and Keena Jackson, U.S.M.C., stationed in Belle Chasse, La. Several nieces and nephews including: Richard Markwith and children, Griffin, Trent and Clark; Paul Markwith and wife, Michal and their children, Alex, Eric and Meg; Robert Markwith; and Maureen Pearcy and husband, Paul and their son, Jake. Also, Joseph, Julie, T.D. and Rea Boldan.
Tom was preceded in death by a brother, Robert D. McKeon Jr.; and three sisters, Lousie J. McKeon, Patricia A. Markwith and Marion L. Boldan.
Funeral services will begin on Saturday at 9a.m. at the Hudak-O'Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant. Mass will follow at 9:30a.m. at Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick's Church, 200 Delaware Avenue, Olyphant. Rev. Scott Sterowski, pastor, will officiate.
Interment with committal services will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Blakely and military honors by Shopa Davey VFW Post 6082, Peckville.
Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
