Robert L. Doughton, 68, Olyphant, died on Sunday at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Jean Bonish.
Born in Scranton, son of the late David and Mary Jordan Doughton, he was educated by St. Paul’s School and the Scranton School District. He resided in Olyphant for the last 40 years and, before that, Dickson City.
Bob was currently employed by Olyphant Borough for the last 28 years. He formerly worked at Superior Door with 25 years of service, Time Warner, Dynamic Molding and National Bakery.
Bob was an active member of the Dickson City community and was involved with Dickson City Black Hawk Youth Football, Dickson City Little League and Olyphant Lions Football. He was a member of Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, Olyphant, and Tioga Gun Club, Morris. He enjoyed hunting, Notre Dame football and Yankee baseball. A loving husband, father and “Poppy,” he loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities with Jean.
He is also survived by two sons, Robert J. and Brian, both of Olyphant; two grandsons, Kellen and Jack; a granddaughter, Caitlin; two daughters-in-law, Karen and Joy; a brother, David, of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Patricia Worrell, of Scranton; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Edward Robert; infant brother, Dennis; and two sisters, Judy Bein and Susanne Bombar.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, 200 Delaware Ave., Olyphant. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Blakely. Friends are asked to go directly to the church on Saturday morning.
