Nadia Cucura, 88, a lifelong resident of Olyphant, died on Wednesday at home. She was the wife of Andrew who died in 2005. They were married for 53 years.
Born in Peckville, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Mary Jubinsky Swallow. A graduate of Olyphant High School, she was a member of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church, Olyphant and formerly worked at Pawnee Pants, Olyphant.
Nadia enjoyed her family, she especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren. She was the nurturer and angel for her family and was affectionally known by many as everyone’s granny.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart and all of the caregivers over the years for their love and support which allowed Nadia to remain at home. Jeffrey went above and beyond to take care of his mom when she needed him most and there will always be a special bond between them.
She is survived by four daughters: Laurie Cole, Marcia Demian and husband, Dr. Nicholas, all of Olyphant; Renee Martino of Dickson City and Kerri Mazur of Olyphant; one son, Jeffrey, of Olyphant; six grandchildren: Breanne Cole, Nicholas and Lucas Demian, Dominique Martino and Rachel and Vanessa Mazur; one sister, Diane Rittenhouse of Media; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Andrew A.; a son-in-law, Buddy Cole; and a brother, Peter Swallow.
Divine Liturgy will be held at 10AM on Saturday at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Greek Catholic Church, River St., Olyphant. Rev. Nestor Iwasiw, pastor will preside. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Masks and social distancing will be required.
Immediate family and relatives will attend a private viewing on Friday at the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant.
