Marianne Rhody McHale, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Olyphant on Thursday morning. She was 58 years old. Marianne's loving husband Jeffrey M. McHale, with whom she shared forty wonderful years, is deeply saddened by her loss. They were united in marriage on May 26, 1983.
Born and raised in the town of Coudersport, Marianne was the daughter of Kenneth C. and Joan Snyder Rhody. She received her education from Central High School in Scranton before attending Marywood College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology. Marianne worked at Gertrude Hawk-Barry Callebaut in Throop for thirteen years where she oversaw quality assurance and supported new employees in their training. She was well-known both professionally and personally, for her unlimited kindness and eternal patience.
Marianne had a multitude of interests that brought joy to her life. She was an avid reader who juggled multiple books at a time. She could spend hours discussing politics and current affairs, without reservation to those who knew her best. Marianne delighted in tackling jigsaw puzzles and the daily New York Times Spelling Bee. In the digital age, she was an old soul who still wrote letters to loved ones that were often several pages long, an art that she had practiced since childhood when she and her Uncle Jim, an English professor, would write each other back and forth. Additionally, she possessed exceptional baking skills; her fudge and pizza were second to none, and her chocolate chip cookies always turned out chewy on the inside.
In addition to her husband Jeff and both her parents, Marianne is survived by their daughter and son-in-law, Claire McHale and Alexis Torres Peña of Concord, New Hampshire. Their son, Abraham remained at home with Marianne and Jeff. Her beloved grandson, Aleksander Torres McHale brought great happiness to her life as well. Marianne is also survived by her sister, Teresa Anderson and two brothers, Joel and Sam Shade.
Private visitation was held for immediate family members to pay their respects during this difficult time.
