Joseph J. Saslo, 92, of Blakely, died on Wednesday morning at Gino J .Merli Veterans’ Center, Scranton. He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Sweeder Coveleski Saslo. His first wife, Josephine Gangem Saslo died in 1984.
Born in Peckville, son of the late Paul and Anna Saslo, he resided in Justus most of his life, before moving to Blakey 30 years ago. He was educated in the Blakely School District.
Joe and Josephine were co-owners of WinnJo Industries in Archbald; also, Joe was a former salesman at Sugerman’s Department Store, Eynon.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was a member of Shopa-Davey VFW Post 6082, Peckville. He was an avid fisherman.
He is also survived by two sons and their wives: Robert J. and Janice M. and James G. and Linda M. Saslo, all of Scott Township; three grandsons: Brian, Dr. Christopher and David Saslo; a step-daughter, Margaret Kohl; two step-grandsons: Jeremy and John Paul Kohl; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by eight brothers: Thomas, Anthony, Paul, George, John, Elmer, William and infant, Albert and three sisters: Mary, Helen and Anna.
At Joe’s request, graveside services will be private and at the convenience of the family at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Montdale by Monsignor Patrick J. Pratico, J.C.D., pastor of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Dickson City. Military Honors will be conducted by Shopa-Davey VFW Post 6082.
There will be no calling hours.
