Joseph (Joey) Allen Banik, of Olyphant, died Friday, May 7, 2021. He was born on March 20, 2021 in Scranton, son of Jacob and Rebecca (Swingle) Banik.
Joey was the apple of his parents' eye. He loved snuggles, swaying in his parents’ arms to music, and looking around at the “big wide world.” His very best friends were his three big sisters, who he stared at for hours. He was a strong little boy who fought hard to bring his family six weeks of absolute love and joy.
He is survived by his parents, as well as his three older sisters, Molly, Caroline and Madelyn Banik at home. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Joann (Mislinski) Banik of Wellsboro, Stephen and Lisa (VanVliet) Banik, both of Wellsboro, and his maternal grandparents, Jack and Amy (Welch) Swingle, formerly of Sayre, currently residing in Archbald.
His family would like to thank all of the staff at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), including the many doctors and nurses who provided exceptional care to Joey during his short time with us.
A private graveside service will be held for his parents and siblings in Throop on Tuesday, May 11. In lieu of donations, his family asks that you hug your loved ones and tell them how much you love them each day.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hudak-O'Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Ave., Olyphant, PA 18447. Please visit their website to leave an online condolence.
