John Jene Morelli, 80, left this life on May 26, 2024 at Heritage Hall Healthcare Center in Front Royal, VA. John was born with his twin brother Tom on August 31, 1943 in Washington, DC to John J. Morelli and Betty M. Bachrach-Morelli.
John spent his early life in the Washington, DC area with his brother, mother and Army Sergeant father. Shortly after high school, John joined the U.S. Army and did a tour in Western Germany. After the military John worked in several professions to include retail, restaurant management and eventually retired from AT&T.
John enjoyed music and football but loved baseball. He had an uncanny ability to remember dates and statistics. John was a regular contributor to the editorial section of the local newspaper in Winchester, VA. He loved animals and saved many stray cats and dogs from an early death due to starvation and homelessness. John enjoyed being with his family and spent a great deal of time with his nephews Tommy and Tony.
John is survived by his twin brother, Tom Morelli of Seoul, South Korea; his sister Pam Morelli-Bond of Munroe Falls OH; nephews and nieces, Tommy Morelli of Stephens City, VA, Kim Morelli of Stephens City, VA, Brigit Bond-Hazlett of Mooresville, NC, Brett Bond of Mogadore, OH, Chong Morelli of Seoul, South Korea, and Young Ah Morelli of San Antonio, TX; eight great nephews and nieces and one great-great niece.
John was preceded in death by his parents John and Betty, stepmother, Jeannine Sinnott-Morelli, and nephew, Tony Morelli.
John will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
A memorial blessing service will be held on Saturday, August 10th at 11:30AM at the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant by Rev. Scott Sterowski, pastor of Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick's Church, Olyphant.. Burial with committal services and military honors by the Olyphant Army Honor Guard will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Blakely.
