Jeanne Van Nort, 92, of Olyphant, died Wednesday night at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. Her husband, Frank J. Van Nort died on November 22, 2016. They were married for 61 years.
Born in Duryea, her parents were the late Francis and Gertrude Kelly Shanley. She was a member of Holy Cross Parish, Olyphant.
Jeanne a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School, Olyphant and received her Registered Nursing degree from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Scranton She was employed and retired as a charge nurse from Mercy Hospital, Scranton.
She enjoyed writing stories, painting and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Van Nort Kropa and husband, William; two granddaughters: Corrinne Kropa and Shayna Seeley and husband, Zach; her sister, Mary Boretsky; a brother, James Shanley and wife, Diane; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Joseph, who died on May 8, 2021; three brothers: William, Francis and Joseph Shanley; and a sister, Ann Shanley.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday at 9:30a.m. at Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, 200 Delaware Ave., Olyphant. Rev. Scott Sterowski, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Blakely.
Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. or on Monday from 8:30-9:00a.m. at the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant.
