George Oprishko, 70, a lifelong resident of Olyphant, died on Tuesday at Fox Subacute, Warrington. His wife, the former Mary E. Greskovic, died on June 5, 2008. They were married for 38 years.
Born in Peckville, his parents were the late Michael and Mildred Peernock Oprishko. A graduate of Olyphant High School, he was employed and retired from Thomson Consumer Electronics (RCA), Throop. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of Olyphant American Legion, Raymond Henry Post 327, Jessup American Legion Post 411 and Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, Olyphant.
Surviving are one daughter, Meredith DeNisco and husband, Michael, Germantown, MD; two sons: George, II and wife, Karin, Archbald; and Jason, Philadelphia; grandchildren: Madalyn and Gavin Oprishko and Gabriel DeNisco; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Leon Misiukiewicz of NC and Nancy and Joseph Bonczkiewicz of Justus; one brother, Michael of Olyphant; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Susan; a sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Gene Kollar and a sister-in-law, Sharon.
The funeral Mass will be on Friday at 12:30PM at Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, Delaware Street, Olyphant. Msgr. Michael J. Delaney, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery, Blakely with Military Honors by the U.S. Marine Corps.
Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8PM at the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Ave., Olyphant.
