Eleanor N. Keegan, 83, of Olyphant, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday morning with her loving children by her side. Her husband, Edward Keegan, died in April of 2000. They were married on July 11, 1959.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Antoinette Morano DePietro and was a graduate of Olyphant High School, class of 1955. Eleanor retired from Mid Valley Hospital, Peckville, as the lead cook in the dietary department with more than 20 years of service. Before that, she worked in the garment industry. After retirement, she was employed for many years as a crossing guard for Mid Valley School District. She was a member of Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, Olyphant and was very devoted to St. Ann.
Eleanor was a selfless woman who always cared for others in need. She was a huge help to her daughter, Lori and son-in-law, Rick in taking care of their four children. Her grandchildren were her life and she was always there for them. To her, family was everything, and she enjoyed preparing traditional Italian dinners every Sunday.
She is survived by one son, Edward “Ted” Keegan, Olyphant; one daughter and son-in-law, Lori Ann and Richard Pasko, Olyphant; four grandchildren, Nicole, Richard Jr., Ryan and Nicholas Pasko; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Angeline Vitellaro, Grace Picchio, Josephine Scarlatta and Frances Whitman; and two brothers, Rocco DePietro and an infant, Franco.
