Betty Ann Tinus, 93, of Scranton, passed away peacefully at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton on Friday, August 9th, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jacob John Tinus.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Helen Kellachow and Nicholas Musica. She was a graduate of Dunmore High School, class of 1948. She was of the Roman Catholic faith and a member of Mary Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, Scranton. Prior to pursuing her career as a librarian in NY, she worked at Buckhill Falls Resort and at Capitol Records.
Betty enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, staying in touch with family members near and far, hosting Thanksgiving, baking her famous half-moon cookies, cinnamon buns and kolachi and taking retirement trips to Florida, Falmouth and Martha’s Vineyard. She always had a smile on her face and saw the good in everyone, but wasn’t afraid to share her strong opinions.
She is survived by her brother Nicholas Musica; her children, Joseph Urciuolo and his wife, Barbara, of Scranton; Jacob Tinus and his partner, Stephanie McNichols, of Dunstable, MA; and Michael Tinus and his wife, Rebecca, of Martha’s Vineyard, MA; grandchildren, Linda and Nicholas Valvano, Michael and Danielle Urciuolo, Donna and Donald Montini, Nicholas Urciuolo, Amalie Tinus, and Mikayla Tinus; four great-grandchildren and one on the way.
She was also preceded in death by her three brothers, Leonard, Ike, and Edward Musica, and two sisters, Eugenia Johnson and Libby Wagner.
A Mass will be held at 10 AM on Monday, August 19th, at Mary Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., Scranton. Friends may call from 9:30am until time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mary Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., Scranton, PA 18508.
