Stanley W. Kennedy, Archbald, died on Monday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. His wife is the former Elizabeth Byron Reeves. Born in Olyphant on Oct. 6, 1936, he was the son of the late Stanley and Catherine O’Malley Kennedy. He was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School in Olyphant and a 1958 graduate of the University of Scranton.
A retired US Colonel, he served 30 years in the Army and earned his law degree during that time. During his military career, he served in Kitzingen and Mainz in Germany, Alaska, Korea, Vietnam, Carlisle, Pa. and the Pentagon. After his retirement from the service, he opened his law office in Olyphant and also generously volunteered his services to numerous local charities, particularly those concerned with military and veterans. He served on the board of the Valley Community Library and was very instrumental in the development of the Gino Merli Room.
Also surviving are his son, Stanley and wife, Kristy, Winchester, Va.; son, James, Fairfax, Va.; and daughter, Lianne and husband, Thomas Edwards, Gainesville, Va.; and three grandsons, Sean and Ryan Kennedy and Quentin Edwards.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, 200 Delaware Avenue, Olyphant by Msgr. Michael J. Delaney, pastor. Interment and military honors will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Blakely.
Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant.
Friends are asked to go directly to the church on Friday.
