Kathryn “Kashie” McDevitt, 89, a lifelong resident of Olyphant, died Saturday morning at St. Mary’s Villa, Elmhurst. Her husband, John J. “Jack” McDevitt died in 2009. They were married for 59 years. Born in Olyphant, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Julia Klachaney. A graduate of Olyphant High School Class of 1944 and The Scranton State General Hospital School of Nursing, Kashie was employed by and retired from Mid Valley Hospital as a registered nurse. She was a member of Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church. She is survived by a son, Jay McDevitt and wife, Donna; a daughter, Judy Piestrak and husband, Tony, all of Olyphant; four grandchildren: Marissa McDevitt and wife, Jill, Meghan Keegan and husband, Tom, Maura Carito and husband, Frank, and A.J. Piestrak; two great grandchildren: Kenley and Tucker Keegan.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Edward, John and Peter Kolcharno.
The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:30AM at Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, Delaware Avenue, Olyphant. Msgr. Michael J. Delaney, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. There will be no public calling hours.
