Violet M. Spillar, 88, a lifelong resident of Olyphant, died on Friday night at Mountain View Care Center, Scranton. Her parents were the late Paul and Mary Grudzlovitch Spillar.
Born in Olyphant, she was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, formerly Holy Ghost Church and was a graduate of Holy Ghost School and Olyphant High School. Violet retired from Tobyhanna Army Depot with 28 years of service. She was a world traveler, loved spending time with her family and also was a member of the Broadway Theater League at the Masonic Temple, Scranton.
She is survived by one sister, Mary M. Mroczka and her husband, Frank P., Jermyn; 2 nieces: Marie E. DiNunzio and husband, Mark M. of Landsdale and Carole L. Mroczka and husband, Frank C., Virginia Beach, VA; one nephew, Atty. Frank D. Mroczka and wife, Donna M., Dunmore; great nieces and nephews: Cynthia, Christopher, David, Seth, Christian, Tess and Armond; and many cousins and friends.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Francis and Paul Spillar.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 9:00AM from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant with Mass following at 9:30AM at Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, Delaware St., Olyphant. Fr. John Doris, pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Dunmore will officiate. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery, Blakely.
Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7PM at the funeral home.
