Richard P. Markwith, 71, of Blakely, died on Wednesday at AseraCare Hospice at Mid-Valley Hospital, Peckville. He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. McKeon Markwith. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on May 6. Born and raised in Scranton, he was a resident of Blakely since 1963. He was the son of the late Frank A. and Emily LeBoutillier Markwith. He graduated from West Scranton High School in 1953 and attended the University of Scranton. He joined the Army in 1958 and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Olyphant. When his children were younger he was active with Little League and Teener League baseball as a coach. Also surviving are four children, Richard P. Jr. and wife, Monica, Roswell, Ga.; Paul J. and wife, Michal, Kingston; Robert, Blakely; and Maureen and husband, Paul Pearcy, South Miami, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Alex, Eric, Griffin, Meg, Trent, Clark and Jake; two sisters, Marie Stolowski, Bounton Beach, Fla. and Jean Pallitto, New Jersey; two brothers, Frank, Blakely and John, Bethlehem; several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Monday at 9 a.m. from the Hudak-O'Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant. Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Delaware Avenue, Olyphant. The Rev. Phillip J. Sladicka, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, 4 to 7 p.m. Christian wake services will be held during this time.
