Rosemary J. McCormick of Blakely died on Thursday night at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.
Born on Jan. 7, 1922, she was a native of Blakely and daughter of the late John D. and Margaret Manley McCormick. She was a graduate of Blakely High School, class of ‘39, and of Marywood University in 1943. She earned a master’s degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York in 1950, where she was elected to Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary society for educators.
She taught business subjects for 36 years at Deposit Central School, Deposit, N.Y., until her retirement in 1979. In 1959 and 1960 school years, she was chosen to study Superior Teaching in the New York Central Schools under the auspices of Teachers College, Columbia University.
She was a life-long member of Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, Olyphant, where she was a former lector. She was a member of Confraternity of Christian Women’s Parish Society and Marywood University Alumni Society. She was a former member and grand regent of Court Holy Family, Catholic Daughters of America, Deposit, N.Y.
Surviving are one brother, John F. McCormick, Bethlehem and his family, Kathleen Butler, Ann Stingelin, Mary Housley, John T. McCormick and Jeanne Elliott; nephew, Patrick J. McCormick; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was also also preceded in death by her brother, Patrick Joseph McCormick; and her niece, Maureen Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday at Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Ave., Olyphant. Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, 200 Delaware St., Olyphant by the Monsignor Michael J. Delaney, pastor.
Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Blakely.
Friends may call on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
