Joan Anne Arthur, 84, of Hampton, VA, died on August 4 in Newport News, VA. Born in Scranton, she resided in Hampton, VA for the last 30 years. Raised in Olyphant, she was the daughter of the late Gerard and Hortense Mary O'Hara Arthur. She was a 1950 graduate of Olyphant High School. Joan retired as a manager of Catherine's. A member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Hampton, VA , she was also a member of the Mid Valley Hospital Auxiliary for many years and president of the PTA for St. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic School from 1974-78. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, playing bingo, doing cross stitch and reading. She is survived by two sons: Paul Wasnetsky, Hampton, VA and Michael Wasnetsky, Dalton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Paul Halloran, Olyphant and Diane and Craig Goldsmith, Hampton, VA; seven grandchildren: Robert, Thomas, Paula, Christopher, Leah, Nicholas and Natalie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Wasnetsky; an infant son, Stephen Wasnetsky; and a sister Geraldine Saltzsieder. Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9:30AM at Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick's Church, 200 Delaware St., Olyphant by the Msgr. Michael J. Delaney, pastor. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Blakely. The family will receive visitors from 9AM until the time of the mass on Friday at the church.
