Justine P. Cherney, of Jessup, died on Friday morning at Lackawanna County Healthcare Center, Sturges. Her husband, Daniel Myron Cherney died in 1975. Her parents were Francis and Mary Gellak Oravec.
Born in Jessup, she was a lifelong resident. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Jessup and a member of their Holy Rosary Society. She was a graduate of St. Michael’s Parochial School, Jessup and a member of the Slovak Heritage Society of Northeastern Pennsylvania. She was formerly employed by Automation Components, Peckville and retired from WEA, Olyphant in 1983.
Her most beautiful gift to the world was her strong faith. She was an inspiration to all she touched, especially her family. Her greatest joy was caring for and spending time with her family. Especially precious to her, were her three loving grandchildren.
She is survived by one daughter, Christine M. Toth of Blakely, one son, Daniel T. Cherney of Archbald, two brothers, Frank Oravec of Peckville and John Oravec of Philadelphia, one sister, Grace Oravec of Jessup, three grandchildren: Daniel J. and Joshua W. Cherney and Teresa Ann Toth and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Andrew, and Ambrose Oravec.
The funeral will be held at 9AM on Monday from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30AM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 1st Avenue, Jessup. The Reverend William Blake, pastor, and The Reverend Gerard Gannon, St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Archbald will co-officiate. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9PM at the funeral home. Christian wake services will be held during this time.
