Mildred Polacek, 74, of Scott Twp., died on Monday morning at Moses Taylor Hospital. Her husband, the late Donald “Danny” Polacek, died in 1990. Her companion and best friend is Richard Polacek of W. Orange, NJ.
Born in Olyphant, she resided in Scott Twp. most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Olga Fedorchak Pish. She was a graduate of Scott Twp. High School and Empire Beauty School, Scranton. She was the proprietor of Mildred’s Beauty Shop, Scott Twp., for 40 years.
She was a member of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Greek Church, Olyphant, Scott Twp. Historical Society, and the Mountain View Ladies Club. She was also a member and current secretary of Scott Twp. Democratic Club, a former Scott Twp. Auditor and a former member of Scott Twp. Hose Co. Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are a son Robert, Justus; two sisters, Jean Ann Howarth and Marlene Rose Toczydlowski, both of Scott Twp.; 3 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her son Donald.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She always put her family’s needs before her own. She enjoyed quilting and cooking.
The funeral will be on Friday at 9AM from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant. Divine Liturgy will follow at 9:30AM at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Greek Catholic Church, River St., Olyphant. Msgr. Stephen Hrynuck, pastor will preside. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 9PM at the funeral home. Parastas will be held at 2:30PM.
