John J. “Jack” Woytack, 65, of Olyphant, died on Thursday at VNA Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Lackawanna Co. Inpatient Unit at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton after a valiant battle with lung cancer. His wife, soul mate and best friend is the former Sonia Smoley. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on January 25th.Born in Throop, he was the son of the late John Jacob and Catherine Wrable Woytack. He was a 1956 graduate of Throop High School and attended Penn State College and the University of Scranton.He was an U.S. Army Veteran serving his country from 1961 to 1963 in Frankfort, Germany. He was employed by Tobyhanna Army Depot for 33 years and was one of the original members of the Autodin division. He was supervisor of the Automated Systems Division until his retirement in May of 1997.A member of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Greek Church, Olyphant, Jack was a loving and giving man who loved spending time with his grandchildren and will be deeply missed.He is also survived by his daughter, Tanya Papura of Mountaintop; 3 precious grandchildren; one brother, Stephen of Scranton and cousins.The funeral will be on Monday at 9AM from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant. Divine Liturgy will follow at 9:30AM at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Greek Catholic Church, River St., Olyphant. Msgr. Stephen Hrynuck, pastor will preside. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.Friends may call on Sunday from 5 to8 PM at the funeral home. Parastas will be held at 7PM.
