Sophie V. Hynak, 86, of Olyphant, died on Wednesday at home. Her husband was the late William Hynak who died in 1963.Born in Olyphant, she was a lifelong resident. Her parents were the late Anthony and Mary Zarnowski Misiura. She was a graduate of St. Michael’s Parochial School, Olyphant and Olyphant High School.A member of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Greek Church, Olyphant, she was formerly active with Ss. Cyril & Methodius PTA and volunteered at their school’s library.She was a wonderful seamstress, decorator and baker and also enjoyed crocheting. She devoted her later years to her grandchildren with gifts of sewing and baking. Fondly referred to by her great grandchildren as Baba, she truly enjoyed her family and looked forward to her visits with them in different parts of the country.She is survived by three daughters, Marie Myskowski of Lake Ariel, Elaine Evans of Jessup and Jeanette Hynak of Olyphant; 1 son, William Hynak of Mount Wolfe; 2 sisters, Sr. Mary Jeanette of Massachusettes and Hedy Faenza of Millburn, NJ; 2 brothers, Thomas of Olyphant and Anthony of Moscow; 11 grandchhildren; 14 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.She was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Catherine Fallat, Nan Plas, Margaret Karpa and Victoria; 4 brothers, Charles, Peter, Francis and Paul; and a grandson, Charles W. Myskowski.The funeral will be on Saturday at 9AM from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant. Divine Liturgy will follow at 9:30AM at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Greek Catholic Church, River St., Olyphant. Msgr. Stephen Hrynuck, pastor will preside. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.Friends may call on Friday from 2 to4 PM & 7 to 9PM at the funeral home.
