Nathan J. “Nate” Bettachini, 91, of Olyphant, died on Thursday morning at AseraCare Hospice Unit, MidValley Hospital, Peckville after an illness. His wife, the former Ann Fagan died in 1982.Born in Scranton and raised in Jessup, he was a resident of Dickson City most of his life. He was the son of the late Alfredo and Jennie Cavagnaro Bettachini and a graduate of Jessup High School and attended St. Thomas College, now the University of Scranton. A devout Catholic, he was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Olyphant.Prior to retirement, he owned and operated Nate’s Flower Shop in Olyphant for 45 years. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Colombus, Olyphant Council 1095, Jessup Hose Co. #1 and the Olyphant Rotary Club.A loving and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather, he so loved his family, but he cherished the little ones, Emily, Taylor, Luke, Audrey and Cody. They were the light of his life and he loved the time spent with them.He is survived by a daughter, Karen McNichols, Olyphant; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Susan, Dickson City; four grandchildren, Edward McNichols, Honesdale, John McNichols, Scranton, Ellen Lindeman, Warminster and Cody Bettachini of Dickson City; four great grandchildren, Emily and Audrey McNichols and Taylor and Luke Lindeman; a sister, Tina Rodio, Jessup and a brother, Joseph Sebastianelli, Jessup and several nieces and nephewsHe was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Fred Bettachini and a sister Rita Cenci.The funeral will be held at 9AM on Saturday from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant. Mass will be at 9:30AM at St. Patrick’s Church, Delaware St., Olyphant. The Reverend Phillip J. Sladicka, pastor, will officiate. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery.Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9PM at the funeral home.
