Mary Stemphoski, 56, of Olyphant, died on Tuesday at Mercy Hospice, Mercy Hospital, Scranton after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Her parents were the late, John “Red” and Catherine Robbins Harrington.Born in Scranton she resided there most of her life before moving to Olyphant. She attended North Scranton High School and was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, Scranton. Before becoming a full-time homemaker, she was a seamstress in Scranton. She was a former member of the MidValley Elementary Center PTA, spent countless hours volunteering for the Olyphant Playground Assn. and with Girl Socouts.A loving grammy to Jessica and Courtney, she spent her life caring for others.She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Catherine A. and Paul Comonie, Olyphant; two granddaughters: Jessica and Courtney, Olyphant; ex-husband, Robert J. Stemphoski,Carbondale; two brothers: Jack Harrington of Olyphant and Bill Harrington of Scranton several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Margaret Hanyon and an infant sister Catherine Harrington.Funeral Services will be on Friday at 8PM from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant. Reverend Arthur W. Davis will officiate. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home.Family requests that no flowers be sent.
