Evelyn Simpson

November 28, 1912 — March 5, 2008

Evelyn Simpson, 95, of Olyphant, died on Wednesday morning at AseraCare Hospice at MidValley Hospital, Peckville. Her husband, William, died in 1977.Born in Moosic, she was raised in Jessup and lived in Olyphant for the last 75 years.  Her parents were the late Thomas and Mary Tobin McCormack.  She graduated from Jessup High School in 1930 and received her LPN from the Hoyt School of Nursing, Scranton.  She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Church; their Altar Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters.  She was also active with the PTA at St. Patrick’s School.A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.She is survived by four daughters: Mary Eaton and husband, William, St. Petersburg, FL; Elaine Gaughan and husband, Eugene, Carlisle; Sharon Hooper and Rose Ann Zelinsky and husband, Michael, all of Olyphant; two sons: William, Jr. and wife, Paula, Throop and Thomas “Tim” and wife Donna, Olyphant.  One sister: Rita Lalka, Eldersburg, MD; 15 Grandchildren; 8 Great Grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death two sisters: Mary Ruane and Anne MacFarlane.The funeral will be held at 9AM on Saturday from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant.  Mass will be celebrated at 9:30AM at St. Patrick’s Church, Delaware St., Olyphant.  The Reverend Thomas M. Muldowney will officiate.  Interment will take place in the parish cemetery.Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9PM at the funeral home.  Christian wake services will be held during this time.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to AseraCare Hospice, 749 Northern Blvd., Clarks Summit, PA, 18411 or the MidValley Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, 1400 Main St., Peckville, PA, 18452. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at MidValley Hospital and the AseraCare Hospice staff.For directions or to leave online condolences visit www.hudak-osheafuneralhome.com.
