John J McDevitt

John J. “Jack” McDevitt, 83, a lifelong resident of Olyphant, died Sunday morning at home. He and his wife, the former Kathryn Klachaney, would have celebrated their 59th anniversary on June 10th.Born in Olyphant, he was the son-of-the-late John Leo and Sarah Cavanaugh McDevitt. A graduate of St. Patrick’s High School, Olyphant, he was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and a former member of their choir. He was also a member of the Olyphant Knights of Columbus, Council #1095 and the Mid Valley High School Booster Club.Being musically and artistically inclined, he was part of the Gene Reich Orchestra, played in the Olyphant American Legion Band and was a former member of the Mid Valley Male Chorus.He retired from General Dynamics Defense Plant, Eynon, in 1984 with over 30 years of service and was formerly employed by Nudelman’s Men’s Store, Olyphant. He is survived by one son, Jay McDevitt and wife, Donna; one daughter, Judy Piestrak and husband, Tony, all of Olyphant; four grandchildren: Marissa, Meghan and Maura McDevitt and A.J. Piestrak.The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:30AM at St. Patrick’s Church, Delaware Avenue, Olyphant. Rev. Thomas M.
