Maria L. Comonie, 53, of Olyphant, died on Tuesday morning at Mercy Hospice, Scranton after a courageous four year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Gene “Geno” Comonie. They would have celebrated their 25th anniversary on September 8th.Born in Carbondale, she resided in Olyphant for the last 30 years. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Louise Denner Bruno. She graduated from Carbondale High School in 1973.She was most recently employed by Geipo Construction and helped build the Casey Highway. Her prior employment was at Weston, Archbald, for 20 years.She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, who will be deeply missed. She also had a great love for her animals.She is also survived by one daughter, Gina, Olyphant; one grandson, Devon; two sisters: Alice Comonie and husband, Lenny, Olyphant and Lois Ann Bruno; one brother, Thomas Bruno, Olyphant; two aunts: Lois Stephens and Dolly Ross, Carbondale; several nieces & nephews.She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Bruno.Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7PM at the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant.Funeral services and committal will be private and at the convenience of the family.Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Lackawanna County, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, PA, 18411.To make contributions please visit http://www.epartnersingiving.com/marialcomonie
