John N. Black

John N. Black, 73, of Mount Cobb, died Sunday at home after a long illness. His wife of 39 years, the former Marie Serafini, died in November 1997.Born in Montdale, son of the late Claire Lillian Kennedy and Harold Frank Black, he was raised in Eynon and attended Eynon public schools. He resided in Mount Cobb for the last 12 years and before that was a resident of Dickson City. A Navy veteran of 20 years, he retired in 1974, serving on numerous ships and share stations. He also served 19 months in Vietnam. Before retiring, he was the operations manager for Community Building Services, Peckville, and co-owner of Valley Carpet Cleaning with his lifelong friend, Richard Terzoni, Jessup. He was a member of American Legion Post 624 and VFW Post 7963, both in Eynon.He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who truly will be missed by everyone who knew him. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, family gatherings, walks and his dog, Oscar.Surviving are a son, John P., Mount Cobb; three daughters, Lillian Egley and husband, Chuck, Eynon; Joanne Corby and husband, Brian, Factoryville; and Darlene Zigga and fiancé, Paul Sekol, Olyphant; four brothers, Ervin, Gene, George and Vaughn; four sisters, Florence, Leona, Lois and Kim; eight grandchildren, John Jason and wife, Amber; Krysten and Melissa Zigga, Lewis Egley, Matthew and Melissa Corby, Jorden and Paul Sekol Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Shayna and Shandon; nieces and nephews.He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold “Poochie,” in June 2007.The family would like to especially thank Patricia Findeis, his loving and dedicated companion of more than 10 years, and Heartland Hospice for their care.Blessing services will be Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home Inc., 115 Garfield Ave., Olyphant, with the Rev. Thomas M. Muldowney, pastor of St. Patrick’s, Olyphant, officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.Friends may call Wednesday, 5 until time of service.
