Frances A. Kovacic, 98, of Blakely, died on Thursday morning at Mercy Hospital, Scranton. Her husband, Michael J., died in 1980. They were married for 50 years. Born in Forest City, she resided in Blakely since 1942. Daughter of the late Anton and Mary Grill Bedene, she was the oldest member of St. Patrick’s Church, Olyphant. She retired from Weston, Eynon. A former volunteer for the American Red Cross, she was known as the matriarch of her family. She loved to crochet, quilt and bake apple pies. She is survived by one daughter, Margaret M., Blakely; one brother, Joseph Bedene, Palm Springs, CA; many nieces and nephews; her extended family that she loved as if they were her own, Carol & Robert Towers and children: Judy & Donald Genson and children, Kevin & Laura; Jeff & Lisa Towers and children, Nathanael, Benjamin, Andrew, Adam & Hannah; Jill & James Poole and children, Erin & Zach; and Jayne & James Kuhnert and daughter, Jamie. She was preceded in death by five brothers: Anthony, Frank, Paul, Michael & infant, John; six sisters: Mary Burshnick, Albinia Bedene, Jean Polesnak, Anne Bedene, Margaret Petrus & infant, Louise. The funeral will be held at 9AM on Monday from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant. Mass will be at 9:30AM at St. Patrick’s Church, Delaware Avenue, Olyphant. Reverend Thomas M. Muldowney, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Forest City. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 7PM at the funeral home.
