La Fern Kelley of Olyphant, died on Thursday at the home of her beloved companion, David Owens, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Earl. Born in Bridgeport, CT, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Lou Balling. She owned and operated several boutique shops in Pennsylvania and Florida and was a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker in Greentown for many years. She attended St. George-St. James Episcopal Church, Jermyn and was a member of MidValley Senior Center, Dunmore Senior Center and a social member of VFW Post 4909, Dupont. She enjoyed painting, sewing, ballroom dancing and bus trips with Dave. They appeared on many TV dance shows. She was a loving mother and devoted grandmother and great grandmother. She was a very energetic person who loved life and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Surviving are companion, David Owens; a daughter, Barbara Walters and husband, Charles, Bethlehem, CT; a son, Robert, Port St. Lucy, FL; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also, David Owens’ children, Cindy, Ed, Jimmy and Karen and grandkids. She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Willard and Bobby. Memorial Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10AM at St. James-St. George Episcopal Church, 398 Washington Avenue, Jermyn. There will be no public viewing.
