W. William Kalowsky, 75, of Peckville, died Friday at home after a courageous battle with cancer. His wife is the former Mary Kathryn Brennan. They were married Dec. 30, 1961.Born in Scranton, he resided in Peckville for most of his life. He was the son of the late William G. and Kathryn A. Homza Kalowsky. He was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School, Olyphant, and received a bachelor’s degree from King’s College, Wilkes-Barre. A Vietnam veteran, he was honorably discharged and retired from the Navy as a LCDR with 20 years of service. As part of his military service, he was part of the deployment to recover John Glenn’s space capsule upon its return from orbit. After his retirement, he was employed by Schott Glass Technologies, Duryea, and later retired from Harper-Collins Publishing, Throop. Bill was a former Valley View school director for 10 years, a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville, the Antique Automobile Club and the Model A Restorers Club.A man who loved his God, family and country, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and antique cars.The family wishes to thank Dr. Hyzinski and his staff and the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate care.He is also survived by a daughter, attorney Kathryn Mary Sutton and husband, John, Potomac, Md.; a son, Capt. James K. Kalowsky, U.S.N., and wife, Kristina, Portsmouth, N.H.; a brother, Dr. Joseph D. Kalowsky of Sugarloaf; six grandchildren, James, Teresa, Grace, William and Mary Kalowsky; and Lauryn Sutton; nieces, nephews and cousins.The funeral will be Monday at 8:30 a.m. from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home Inc., 115 Garfield Ave., Olyphant, with Mass at 9 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Willow Street, Peckville. Monsignor Peter P. Madus, pastor, will officiate.
