Helen Olenick

Helen Olenick, 100, of Sturges, died on Thursday morning at MidValley Hospital, Peckville.  Her husband, Edward J., died in 1968.  They were married for 34 years.  Her parents were the late Andrew and Ann Bazil.Born in West Scranton, she was a resident of Sturges since 1936.  She attended West Scranton schools and was a member of Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, Jessup.  She was a former president of the Ladies Social Club of Sturges and a Republican committeewoman for many years.She retired from Daystrom, Eynon with 20 years of service.  Prior to that she worked in the local garment industry.  She enjoyed cooking, canning, crocheting, knitting and needlepoint.A loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was an inspiration to all who met her and will be deeply missed.The family would like to extend a special “thank-you” to the nursing staff at MidValley Hospital for their care for Helen.She is survived by one son, Edward J. Olenick, Sr., Garwood, NJ; two grandsons: Edward J. Olenick, Jr. and wife, Carmela and Patrick Olenick and wife Christine; five great- grandsons: Edward J., III, Daniel and Ryan Olenick and Matthew and Michael Mostowski; many cousins.She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Irene Mostowski and grandchildren, Joseph and Helene MostowskiThe funeral will be held at 9AM on Monday from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home,  115 Garfield Avenue, Olyphant.  Divine Liturgy will be at 9:30AM at Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, 313 1st Avenue, Jessup.  Rev. Mgsr. John T.
