Michael Ricciardi, 90, a lifelong resident of Olyphant, died on Monday at Geisinger-Community Medical Center, Scranton. His wife Molly died on January 28, 2011. They were married for 61 years.Born in Olyphant, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Margaret Ricciardi. He was a graduate of Olyphant High School and worked and retired from Throop Fashions. Mike was a lifelong member of St. Patricks Church, now Holy Cross Parish, Olyphant.A U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, he served and was wounded in Italy. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart. He was a member of American Legion Raymond Henry Post 327, Olyphant and VFW Past 6082, Peckville.He enjoyed bowling, golfing and watching the New York Yankees. He always looked forward to and never missed his grandchildren’s sporting events.The family would like to thank the Geisinger-CMC staff for their care and support.He is survived by two sons: Michael and wife, Christine, Peckville and Alex and wife, Debbie, Olyphant; one sister, Tiny Ilacqua, Clarks Summit; Grandsons: Michael, Jason, Alex, Jr. and Brandon; one great grandson, Jordan; two great granddaughters: Kaylee and Mia; a sister-in-law, Anna Mae Ricciardi, Archbald; a brother-in-law, Robert Pettinato, Scranton; many nieces, nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by a brother, August and a sister Elizabeth Pettinato.Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9AM from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Ave., Olyphant with Military Services by American Legion Raymond Henry Post 327 at 8:45AM. Mass will follow at 9:30AM at Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, Delaware St., Olyphant. Rev. August A. Ricciardi, nephew, and Msgr. Michael J. Delaney, pastor, will concelebrate.
