Edward R. Doughton, 45, of Olyphant, died peacefully Wednesday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, the former Joy Trapani.Born in Scranton, son of Robert and Jean Bonish Doughton, Olyphant, he resided in Olyphant most of his life and was a graduate of Mid Valley High School. He was a member of Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, where he formerly served as an usher. He was a social member of Eureka Hose Company 4.Eddie formerly worked at WEA and more recently as a van driver for the Mid Valley School District. He was past vice president of Olyphant Borough Council and was a member of the Olyphant Democratic Committee. He was past president of Olyphant Little League, a former coach for Olyphant Lions football, Mid Valley football and Mid Valley girls basketball. He was an avid fan of Mid Valley athletics, the New York Yankees and Notre Dame football, but enjoyed watching all sports.He is also survived by two brothers, Robert and Brian, both of Olyphant; “the apples of his eye,” two nephews, Kellen and Jack and a niece, Caitlin; a sister-in-law, Karen Doughton; several aunts, uncles, cousins; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Cosimo and Barbara Trapani; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; nieces and a nephew.Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, 200 Delaware Ave., Olyphant.
