Reie Agnes Novak, 83, of Olyphant died on Friday night at Lackawanna Health and Rehab Center, Peckville. Her husband, Anthony F. Novak Sr., died Jan. 1, 2000. They were married for 45 years.Born in Osaka, Japan, she moved to the U.S. in 1957, and resided in Olyphant since 1965. Her parents were the late Chosuke and Ise Imaoka. She graduated high school in Japan, and became a U.S. citizen on Jan. 28, 1970.She was employed by Baumell’s Dress Factory, and was a member of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union. She loved sewing and gardening.Reie was a loving mother and grandmother and very accomplished seamstress. She continued to enjoy sewing after her retirement, especially making christening, communion and wedding gowns for her family and close friends.The family would like to express extreme gratitude to all of the workers on the D Wing and Sophie at Lackawanna Health Care and Rehab Center and also Elmcroft Senior Living of Mid Valley for the wonderful care and compassion they provided during her time spent there.She is survived by her son, Anthony F. Novak Jr. and wife, Mary Ann, Olyphant; a daughter, Agnes Nichols, Morgantown, and companion, Alan Spilar; grandchildren, Jeffrey Nichols and wife, Debbie; Brian Novak and wife, Alicia; Katie Novak, Elizabeth Greene and husband, Jimmy; and Rose Hughes and husband, Chris; great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Grace and Ben Nichols, Dylan Phillips and Hunter Novak; and a sister, Aiyo Imaoka, Japan.She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Shozo, Shosuke and Seizo Imaoka.Funeral services will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Ave., Olyphant.Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.She will be buried in Indiantown Gap Veteran National Cemetery, Annville.Memorial contributions may be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.For directions or to leave online condolences, visit www.hudak-osheafuneralhome.com.
