Bernard S. Kosydar Sr., 89, of Olyphant, died Friday at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. His wife, the former Jean Novajosky, died in 2012. They were married for 66 years.Born in Olyphant, son of the late Michael and Anna Kosydar, he resided in Dickson City for most of his life. He was a graduate of St. Michael the Archangel School and attended Olyphant High School before joining the military. He served in the Navy and was a veteran of World War II and Korea.He was employed by Wallace Murray Corp., Scranton, retired from Gould Battery, Dunmore, and was a co-owner of Scott View Golf Course in Montdale. A member of Holy Cross Parish, Olyphant, Bernie served as a sexton, eucharistic minister, lector, and also trained altar servers.He loved golfing and deep sea fishing, and was an avid Penn State, New York Giants and New York Yankees fan.Also surviving are four sons, Bernard S. Jr. and wife, Angela; William G. and wife, Cheryl; and Thomas and wife, Debbie, all of Dickson City; and James and wife, Lynda, Fleetville; a brother, Michael, Dickson City; and many nieces and nephews.He was also preceded in death by nine siblings.The family would like thank Dr. Linda Thomas; Dr. Henry Yeager; Dr. David Fitzpatrick; Nancy Greer, PA-C, and the staff at DaVita Dialysis for their compassionate care for Bernie.The funeral will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Hudak-O’Shea Funeral Home, 115 Garfield Ave., Olyphant, with Mass at 9:30 in Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, Delaware Street, Olyphant, to be officiated by Monsignor Michael J. Delaney, pastor.
